Someone posted a comment to my blog on Troy Davis. The person was very concerned about debating the facts around Davis's conviction related to what actually happened when the officer who was killed. The writer ended their response by accusing me and others I suppose of "clinging" to racism. That accusation is so insanely funny to me, but it's one that a lot of White people (and well trained Black people) hide behind. What that writer and many other people are missing is even if Troy Davis was guilty, there's absolutely no defense for the racist methodology in which the so-called justice system is carried out systematically. White people who complain about our anger about that have absolutely no moral ground or credibility to criticize us because the minute one of your relatives is wrongly treated by police you are all over defending your relative, friend, or whomever, and your situations cannot even hold the jock strap of what we experience. People like the writer expose their true ignorance when they state such things (as he did) that we "cling" to racism. The inference there is that we have some reason to hide behind something and make excuses for something. Obviously the writer didn't read this site very carefully. It's impossible to reduce us as angry and misguided. We are scientists at understanding this social problem and we are activists dedicated to eradicating it. The truth is I have manuevered quite successfully through the White corporate world, earning enough money to travel extensively and finance my political work. My point being you can take me and place me in any environment that White people come from and I will do as well, if not better, than any of them. By the same token, there are very few Whites who would last a day in the environment that produced me and that produces millions of African people everyday. I know that. You know that, and we both know each of us knows that. So stop pretending that the problems we talk about are in our head. You've been using that same strategy for 40 years. It's tired and discredited. Stop acting like you have something to defend when we call the system out. Don't you see that your beloved system is in a severe state of decline? Deal with that! It's happening whether you want to admit it or not. Soon you will have no choice. In the meantime, you trying to talk to me about the validity of racism is about as credible as me trying to talk to any mother about the lack of difficulty in childbirth.
